Darum geht’s: Durch eine Reihe unglücklicher Umstände bekommt es der junge Ram mit Mafiaboss Musa zu tun. Dieser hat es sich zum Ziel gemacht, das Glücksspielgeschäft zu revolutionieren.

Das meinen wir: Ich gebe zu, die Inhaltsangabe ist diesmal etwas nichtssagend geraten, aber so wirklich habe ich eben leider nicht rauskriegen können, wovon Luck nun eigentlich genau handelt. Doch um die Story scheint es bei diesem Film, für den sich Kaal-Regisseur Shah einige Jahre Zeit gelassen und sogar von Karan Johar abgewandt hat, eh nicht wirklich zu gehen, statt dessen wird allerorts die spektakuläre Action gepriesen, für die sich der ein oder andere Hauptdarsteller angeblich mächtig ins Zeug gelegt hat. Apropos Hauptdarsteller: Neben alten Hasen wie Sanjay Dutt und Mithun Chakraborty hat Jungstar Imran Khan eine zentrale Rolle und Shruti Hassan, Tochter von Kamal Hassan, gibt ihr Debüt. Wer weiß, vielleicht hat Shah ja tatsächlich etwas aus dem Kaal-Debakel gelernt und erweist sich doch noch als einigermaßen fähiger Regisseur. Das Drumherum klingt jedenfalls gar nicht mal so übel – aber das war bei Kaal ja auch nicht anders…

Darum geht’s: Nichts scheint das Glück von Architekt Aman und seiner geliebten Neha trüben zu können – bis zu dem Tag, an dem sich ihre Familien kennenlernen. Denn Nehas nüchterner Vater passt so gar nicht zu Amans lebhaften Onkel und Ziehvater.

Das meinen wir: Neu ist auch diese Geschichte nicht, aber den Trailern nach zu urteilen, wurde sie von Regiedebütant Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad immerhin ganz sympathisch und angenehm unaufgeregt inszeniert. Mit Anupam Kher und Boman Irani ist das so eine Sache, man sieht beide sehr gern, zumal zusammen, doch während Kher manchmal zu aufgedreht spielt wirkt Irani gelegentlich zu passiv – hoffentlich hatte Ahmad da ein Auge drauf. Wenn ja, ist die Paarung Gold wert und dürfte es leicht schaffen, von den scheinbar eher blassen jüngeren Hauptdarstellern abzulenken. Ich bin gespannt!

Haben die Regisseure, Produzenten und vor allem die Writer Bollywoods denn wirklich gar keine neuen Ideen mehr? Ist mittlerweile wirklich jeder neue Hindi-Film, der in Indien in die Kinos kommt, nur ein Abklatsch einer Geschichte, die bereits tausendmal genau so oder so ähnlich verfilmt wurde?

Was meint ihr: Stimmt mein Eindruck, oder liegt meine Beobachtung nur darin begründet, dass ich mich auch mit all den B- und C-Filmen beschäftige, die an den Start gehen? Oder war Bollywood etwa schon immer so unkreativ? Und ist Hollywood in dieser Hinsicht vielleicht auch nicht besser?

Cheap Software

Mag ihren Ehemann nicht: Gracy Singh in Dekh Bhai Dekh

Regie: Rahat Kazmi

Cast: Gracy Singh, Siddhartha Koirala, Raghuvir Yadav, Vijay Raaz

Darum geht’s: Eine kleine Stadt irgendwo im Westen von Uttar Pradesh: Babli ist jung, clever und unglücklich verheiratet. Um sich aus ihrer misslichen Lage zu befreien, plant sie eine Bank auszurauben und findet in Shyam, Yadavji und Profidieb Charan willige Mitstreiter.

Das meinen wir: Ich komme mir mittlerweile wirklich vor wie eine stehengebliebene CD, die in jeder Woche dieselben Worte wiederholt, doch ich komme nicht umhin auch in Bezug auf die Krimikomödie „Dekh Bhai Dekh“ zu sagen: Was für eine furchtbar öde, abgegriffene Geschichte! Von einem talentierten Regisseur mit bekannten Stars und eingängiger Musik verfilmt, könnte man daraus vielleicht noch einen halbwegs interessanten Film machen, doch inszeniert von einem völlig unbekannten Regiedebütanten und besetzt mit Ex-Sternchen Gracy Singh und C-Film-Schauspieler Siddhartha Koirala („Fun – Can be dangerous sometimes“) gibt es wirklich keinen vernünftigen Grund, sich für dieses Machwerk zu begeistern. Einzige Hoffnung für die Produzenten ist wohl, dass sich ein paar Zuschauer wegen der Namensgleichheit mit einer beliebten indischen TV-Serie aus den 90ern ins Kino verirren, für welche passenderweise erst vor wenigen Wochen eine Verfilmung angekündigt wurde…

Darum geht’s: Akash Verma ist ein „Nobody“ und will es mit seiner Musik zum „Somebody“ schaffen…

Das meinen wir: Man nehme den obigen Text und ersetze „Krimikomödie“ durch „Musikfilm“, „ein völlig unbekannter Regiedebütant“ durch „ein Regieduo, das mit Vorliebe uninspiriert Hollywoodfilme kopiert“ und „Ex-Sternchen Gracy Singh und C-Film-Schauspieler Siddhartha Koirala“ durch „eine Reihe von B-Stars“ und schon weiß man ungefähr, was einen bei Jashnn erwartet. Mit andern Worten: Genau wie bei Dekh Bhai Dekh und so vielen anderen Bollywoodfilmen in jüngster Zeit, versuchen die Macher von Jashnn krampfhaft, eine Geschichte zum Leben zu erwecken, die bereits so oft verfilmt worden ist, dass sie schon lange mausetot ist, und versuchen dabei gar nicht erst, den Zuschauern dieses Vorhaben wenigstens mit sympathischem Cast oder fähiger Crew schmackhaft zu machen. Einziger Unterschied zu Dekh Bhai Dekh: Bei Jashnn verbirgt sich hinter „die Macher“ niemand geringeres als Mukesh Bhatt. Was den Film allerdings nicht wirklich attraktiver macht.

Titel: Short Kut – The Con Is On

Darum geht’s: Raju und Shekhar wollen groß rauskommen im Filmgeschäft, der eine als Schauspieler, der andere als Regisseur. Raju ist so gierig nach Erfolg, dass er seinem Freund Shekhar kurzerhand ein von ihm geschriebenes Skript stiehlt und es so tatsächlich zum Superstar schafft. Shekhar ist am Boden zerstört und als dann auch noch seine junge Ehe mit Schauspielerin Mansi zu scheitern droht, beschließt er, sich mit Raju zu versöhnen.

Das meinen wir: Von „Phir Hera Pheri“-Regisseur Neeraj Vora ist vielleicht kein Meisterwerk zu erwarten, aber sein neuer Film macht irgendwie Laune. Die Geschichte klingt spaßig, die Bilder sind ansprechend und dass die Musik von Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy stammt ist per se schon mal eine tolle Sache, auch wenn ich bislang noch nicht dazu kam, ausführlich reinzuhören. Dazu ein Cast, der zwar nicht aus absoluten Top-Stars besteht, aber immerhin mit sympathischen und wohl bekannten Gesichtern wie dem von Akshaye Khanna oder Amrita Rao gespickt ist – das könnte was werden!

Darum geht’s: Joymohan lebt fernab von seinem Sohn und dessen Familie in Kalkutta, bis er eines Tages einen Herzanfall erleidet und beschließt zu ihnen nach Mumbai zu ziehen. Fortan verläuft sein Leben völlig anders als zuvor, vor allem nachdem er auf einem seiner morgendlichen Spaziergänge seiner alten Schulfreundin Neelima begegnet.

Das meinen wir: Nicht nur der Regisseur ist hier ein Debütant, auch die Produktionsfirma „INOX“ tritt mit „Morning Walk“ erstmals in Aktion und auch einige der jüngeren Hauptdarsteller sind Newcomer. Ganz im Gegensatz zu Anupam Kher und Sharmila Tagore natürlich, zwei alten Hasen in Bollywood, die wohl jeder Zuschauer gerne sieht und die auch so ziemlich das einzige sind, was an diesem Streifen halbwegs interessant klingt. Denn alles was bislang über den Film bekannt ist klingt zwar recht lieblich und harmonisch, aber auch ziemlich unspektakulär und fad. Dazu passt auch der Soundtrack von Jeet Gannguli, der zwar gefällig aber austauschbar klingt und, den Trailern nach zu urteilen, von Kameramann Chandan Goswami auch ebenso eingefangen wurde.

Kay Kay Menon in Sankat City

Darum geht’s: Kleinganove Guru entdeckt eines Tages einen Koffer voller Geld in einem gestohlenen Mercedes und kann sein Glück kaum fassen. Doch zu früh gefreut: Das Geld gehört Nachtclubbetreiber Faudjaar und der will darauf so leicht nicht verzichten.

Das meinen wir: Gähn, was für eine abgegriffene Story. Vielleicht bilde ich mir das nur ein, aber irgendwie drehen sich indische Komödien auffällig häufig darum, dass ein Haufen durchgedrehter Typen einen Geldkoffer findet und kurz darauf von fiesen Gangstern gejagt wird, die ihnen ebendiesen wieder abluchsen wollen. Der Geschichte wegen kommt also noch keine Vorfreude auf für Pankaj Advanis ersten Film. Das vermag höchstens die Aussicht, Kay Kay Menon mal wieder in einer heiteren Rolle zu sehen – und vielleicht die recht kreativ gestalteten Trailer und Poster, die darauf hoffen lassen, dass der Film selbst ähnlich originell inszeniert wurde.

Darum geht’s: Stuntman Viraj braucht Frauen nur um sich zu vergnügen, Model und angehende Ärztin Simrita hält wenig von Männern und würde am liebsten gleich komplett auf sie verzichten. Wann immer die beiden aufeinander treffen fliegen die Fetzen, doch als sein Bruder und ihre beste Freundin heiraten wollen, sind sich die zwei Streithähne ausnahmsweise mal einig: Diese Hochzeit müssen sie verhindern!

Das meinen wir: Dieser Film steht und fällt mit der Chemie der beiden Hauptdarsteller. Die Story selbst ist dünn und schon ziemlich abgenutzt, aber wenn Kareena und Akshay gut, oder besser: sehr gut, harmonieren, stehen die Chancen auf einen unterhaltsamen Streifen dennoch ganz ordentlich. Die beiden sind ein durchaus eingespieltes Team und haben in den vergangenen Jahren etliche gemeinsame Filme gedreht – gut möglich also, dass ihr Zusammenspiel stark genug ist, den Film zu schultern. Was Regisseur Sabbir Khan angeht fallen Prognosen dagegen deutlich schwerer, schließlich gibt er mit „Kambakkht Ishq“ sein Debüt. Die Trailer sehen jedenfalls schon mal recht ansprechend aus. Leichte, oberflächliche Kost, ganz klar, aber die muss ja nicht unbedingt schlecht sein.

Darum geht’s: Omar bekommt durch ein Stipendium die Gelegenheit, in New York zu studieren. Dort freundet er sich mit den NRIs Samir und Maya an. Die drei sind ein tolles Team und haben zusammen jede Menge Spaß – bis ihr sorgenfreies Leben durch die Ereignisse am 11. September 2001 gehörig auf den Kopf gestellt wird…

Das meinen wir: Schon vor Monaten konnte man auf Yashraj-DVDs einen ersten Trailer zu New York sehen – und blieb ratlos zurück. Im Grunde hat sich daran bis heute, zwei Tage vor Veröffentlichung, nichts geändert: Bekannt ist, dass die Idylle der drei Protagonisten nach dem 11. September zerstört wird und dass FBI-Agent Roshan, gespielt von Irrfan Khan, etwas damit zu tun hat. Was genau geschieht, wird aber immer noch geheim gehalten. Klar ist hingegen, dass das ominöse Ereignis einen ziemlich harten Bruch darstellt: Während der erste Teil des Films, den Trailern nach zu urteilen, fast schon anstrengend harmlos zu sein scheint, geht es danach düster zu, wir sehen John nackt gefesselt und Katrina eine Waffe zückend. Ein gewagter Spagat. Und ob die Darsteller, mal abgesehen von Irrfan Khan, tatsächlich das Format haben, eine scheinbar so ernste, dramatische Thematik zu tragen? Ich bleibe skeptisch – wobei Regisseur Kabir Khan für seinen ersten Film („Mission Kabul“) ja recht gute Kritiken erntete, trotzdem dieser in Afghanistan und somit auf durchaus heiklem Terrain spielte.

Titel: Runway

Regie: Sunil Tiwari

Cast: Amarjeet, Tulip Joshi, Deepal Shaw, Lucky Ali

Darum geht’s: Um seiner großen Liebe Melvyna die Drogentherapie zu finanzieren nimmt Allan einen Job als Auftragskiller an. Dabei verschlägt es ihn nach Mauritius, wo ihm zu allen Überfluss auch noch die schöne Shaina den Kopf verdreht.

Das meinen wir: Also nein, wirklich Vorfreude will bei diesem Film nicht aufkommen. Die Trailer wirken öde, die Story sehr gesucht und die Liste der Beteiligten weckt wenig Interesse. Im Regiestuhl sitzt ein Mann, der vor fünf Jahren schon mal einen Film gedreht hat („2nd October“) und damit eben so wenig Erfolg einheimste wie der Hauptdarsteller seines neuen Streifens, der seinerseits sein Debüt 2006 gab („Iqraar – By Chance“) und seitdem bezeichnenderweise in keinem weiteren Film mehr zu sehen war. Die Damen im Cast scheinen eher dekoratives Beiwerk zu sein und der Soundtrack von Shamir Tandon reißt auch nicht gerade vom Hocker. Dann doch lieber „New York“.

Das meinen wir: Anu Malik ist kein A.R. Rahman. Während letzterer sich stets experimentierfreudig gibt und immer wieder mit ungewöhnlichen Songs überrascht, von denen nicht alle gut, aber einige wahre Meisterwerke sind, ist Malik ein verlässlicher Komponist eingängiger, spritziger Songs ohne Ecken und Kanten und somit meist ohne bleibenden Wert. Dieser Linie bleibt er mit dem Soundtrack zu „Kambakkht Ishq“ treu, will heißen: sechs Songs, die mit ansprechender Bebilderung im Film sicher ganz gut unterhalten, aber so oder so ähnlich alle schon mal dagewesen sind. Bezeichnender Weise stammen weder der in meinen Augen schwächste („Welcome To Hollywood“, Salim Sulaiman) noch der stärkste Song („Om Mangalam“, RDB) des Albums aus Maliks Feder: Er steuerte mit Ausnahme der Liebesnummer „Kyun“ eine Reihe von temporeichen Titeln bei, die durchaus nicht schlecht sind – aber eben sehr schnell vergessen. 6 von 10 Punkten.

Zum Reinhören: Musicindiaonline, Bollywoodhungama

Ansonsten wird dem aufmerksamen Leser vielleicht auffallen, dass die Neustarts von jetzt an nicht mehr in einem fließenden Text, sondern etwas strukturierter vorgestellt werden – Feedback ist wie immer erwünscht!

Titel: Let’s Dance

Regie: Aarif Sheikh

Cast: Gayatri Patel, Ajay Chaudhary, Aquib Afzal, Sugandha Garg, Anjan Srivastav

Darum geht’s: Suhani träumt davon, als Tänzerin Karriere zu machen und will es unbedingt in ein Musikvideo schaffen. Einestages begegnet sie einer Gruppe Straßenkinder, entdeckt in ihnen großes tänzerisches Talent und nimmt sich ihrer an.

Das meinen wir: Zugegeben, ein Film ausschließlich besetzt mit Newcomern, der sich dann auch noch um das in Bollywood wenig originelle Thema Tanzen dreht, klingt erstmal wenig aufregend. Auch die Song-Promos sind eher unspektakulär, aber immerhin sind sie recht ansehnlich inszeniert und die Songs von Vipin Mishra sind eingängig. Über Hauptdarstellerin Gayatri Patel, die in den USA groß geworden ist, ist zu lesen, dass sie außer der Teilnahme an ein paar Schönheitswettbewerben auch eine fundierte Tanzausbildung vorweisen kann, und in den sieben Songs des Films ausreichend Gelegenheit bekommen soll, ihr Talent unter Beweis zu stellen. Also dann, geben wir Aarif Sheikh eine Chance: Als Regisseur ist er zwar Debütant, als Editor hat er sich mit Filmen wie „Maqbool“ oder „Taxi No. 9211“ schon einen Namen gemacht und für „Samay“ 2004 sogar den National Film Award kassiert.

Titel: Paying Guests

Cast: Shreyas Talpade, Javed Jaffrey, Celina Jaitley, Aashish Chaudhary, Neha Dupia, Riya Sen, Vatsal Sheth, Johnny Lever

Darum geht’s: Es ist gar nicht so leicht, für vier junge Männer eine Bleibe zu finden – entsprechend froh sind Aslam, Sukhi, Daljit und Karan, als ihnen Vermieter Ballu anbietet, sie als „paying guests“ in seinem Haus aufzunehmen. Allerdings nur unter einer Bedingung – Ballu vermietet nur an Paare! Es müssen also vier passende Damen her, und zwar schnell.

Das meinen wir: Paritosh Painter hatte für die gleichnamige Verfilmung seines Theaterstücks „Paying Guests“ eigentlich an David Dhawan oder Priyadarshan im Regiestuhl gedacht, ließ sich dann aber von Produzent Subhash Ghai überzeugen, den Film gleich selbst zu inszenieren. Das Ergebnis scheint stilistisch trotzdem sehr in Richtung Dhawan/Priyadarshan zu gehen, denn zumindest der Trailer ist vor allem laut und wirr.  Die Songs stammen vom Komponisten-Duo Sajid-Wajid und öden eher an, als dass sie mitreißen, weshalb sie den Film auch nicht wesentlich aufwerten dürften. Und dann sind da noch diese Bilder von Shreyas Talpade und Javed Jaffrey in Frauenkleidern… Also ich verzichte!

Na los, wer traut sich?

Doch was macht diese Erfolge aus? Nicht zuletzt die phänomenale Verwechsel Story mit einigen unerwarteten Twists, sondern auch die gekonnten Anpassungen an andere Sprachräume (neue Stars, leichte oder stärkere Storyänderungen) scheinen das Erfolgsrezept zu sein. Gut, ich habe nicht alle Ausgaben gesehen, somit sollte ich mich mit einem Urteil zurückhalten. Aber bereits die Tatsache, dass bei solchen Änderungen alle beim Publikum ankommen, zeigt doch, dass es sich hier um etwas ganz besonderes an Film handelt.
